  1. Regulatory signs · Road sign

Red eight-sided sign with white lettering

You are approaching an intersection with this sign. What must you do?

Stop completely and go only when the way is clear

A stop sign requires a full stop every time. You may go only after making sure the way is clear.

  2. Regulatory signs · Road sign

Downward-pointing triangle with a red border and white centre

What does this sign require you to do?

Slow down and give way, stopping if needed

A yield sign means you reduce speed and let traffic in or close to the intersection go first. You stop only if you have to.

  3. Regulatory signs · Road sign

Five-sided fluorescent yellow-green sign with two black walking figures

You pass this sign while children are present. The speed limit before the zone was 50 km/h. What is your maximum speed?

    30 km/h

When children are present in a school zone, the limit drops to 30 km/h where the approaching limit is 50 km/h.

  4. Regulatory signs · Road sign

White square sign showing two vehicles side by side, crossed by a red circle and slash

    What does this sign mean?

    Do not pass

Two cars inside a red circle with a slash mean passing is not allowed. The same cars in a green circle would mean passing is permitted.

  5. Regulatory signs · Road sign

White square sign with a solid red circle and a white horizontal bar

You see this sign at the entrance to a street. What should you do?

Do not drive into that street

This is the do not enter sign. Vehicles may not enter the road or lane where it is posted.

  6. Regulatory signs · Road sign

White square sign with a U-shaped arrow, crossed by a red circle and slash

    What does this sign mean?

You may not turn to go back the way you came

A U-shaped arrow in a red circle and slash means no U-turn: do not turn to travel in the opposite direction.

  7. Regulatory signs · Road sign

Black rectangle with a white arrow pointing right

This sign is posted on the street you want to enter. What does it mean?

Traffic may travel only in the arrow's direction

The one-way sign shows the only direction traffic is allowed to travel on that street.

  8. Regulatory signs · Road sign

White square sign with a black island shape and an arrow curving past its right side

You see this sign at the end of a traffic island. What must you do?

Keep to the right of the island

The keep right sign directs you to pass to the right of the traffic island or obstruction it is mounted on.

  9. Regulatory signs · Road sign

White rectangle reading MAXIMUM 50 km/h

You pass this sign on a foggy night. How fast should you drive?

Slower than 50 km/h, to suit conditions

A maximum speed sign shows the top speed for ideal conditions. Fog and darkness call for a lower speed.

  10. Regulatory signs · Road sign

White square sign with a black arrow bending left, crossed by a red circle and slash

What does this sign at an intersection mean?

    Left turns are not allowed

A left-bending arrow crossed by a red circle and slash means no left turn is permitted at that spot.

FAQ

Nova Scotia Class 7 flashcards: questions

Where do these flashcards come from?

500 cards are points from our study notes, which we write from the official Nova Scotia Driver's Handbook; the front names the rule and the back states it. The other 35 cards show a road sign drawing on the front and its meaning on the back, as in our road sign questions.

How should I use the flashcards?

Read the front, answer in your head, then flip. Choose "Got it" only if you knew it; otherwise choose "Review again". At the end, go through the "Review again" cards once more, or pick a single topic from the list to focus on it.

Is my progress saved?

Yes, on this device only. Cards marked "Review again" stay in the "Needs review" list, and every card you rate counts towards your topic map on the exam overview. Nothing is sent to us with your name; you can clear it from the overview page.

Are flashcards enough to pass the Nova Scotia Class 7 test?

No. Flashcards help you remember the rules, but the test asks multiple-choice questions. Use our practice tests and mock exams as well, and study the official material from Service Nova Scotia, Registry of Motor Vehicles.
