Your task

A rescheduled repair workshop

You registered for a Saturday bicycle-repair workshop at a community centre. Two days before the workshop, it was moved to a weekday afternoon, when you cannot attend. Write an email to the programme coordinator.

  • Explain why you chose the original workshop.
  • Describe how the change affects you.
  • Suggest a practical solution and ask for a response.

Practice target: 150–200 words · 27 minutes.

Learn from a worked example

Try writing first, then compare the choices and structure. The example is one possible response, not a template to memorise or an officially rated answer.

A workable structure

  1. Open with the booking and the reason for your email.
  2. Connect the changed date to a specific inconvenience.
  3. Make a workable request and close politely.

One thing to improve

A useful request gives the coordinator something they can actually do. Compare “This is unacceptable” with “Could you move my booking to the next Saturday session?” The second sentence keeps the problem clear and gives a route to resolution.

Teaching example (166 words)

Dear Programme Coordinator, I am writing about the bicycle-repair workshop that was originally scheduled for this Saturday. I booked the session because I cycle to work and would like to learn how to repair a puncture without taking my bicycle to a shop. The weekend timing was the main reason I chose your programme. Yesterday I received a message saying that the workshop will now take place on Tuesday afternoon. Unfortunately, I work until five on weekdays and cannot take leave at such short notice. I have already purchased the recommended repair kit, so I would still prefer to attend rather than cancel altogether. Could you transfer my booking to your next Saturday session at no additional charge? If no weekend session is planned, I would appreciate a refund of the registration fee. Please let me know which option is available by Friday so that I can make other arrangements. Thank you for your help. I look forward to hearing from you. Kind regards, Alex Morgan
