The Basic test is the part of SGI's Class 7 knowledge test that is not about signs. The handbook describes it as driving situations and the rules of the road, and it is where many people lose marks, because a question can come from almost any chapter. This quiz mixes 60 questions from every rules topic in our bank: Graduated Driver Licensing, speed limits, distracted driving, right of way, turning and lane changes, passing and highways, sharing the road, parking, winter and night driving, collisions, impaired driving and traffic law penalties.
Saskatchewan numbers deserve extra attention: 80 km/h where no limit is posted, 60 km/h when passing stopped emergency vehicles, tow trucks and highway equipment with lights flashing, at least 5 m back from a school bus with red lights flashing, and zero alcohol and no cellphone use of any kind while you are in the Graduated Driver Licensing program. Every explanation states the condition the rule depends on and names the handbook page, so reread that page whenever you miss one.

FAQ
SGI Basic test (rules of the road): common questions
What does the SGI Basic test cover?
Driving situations and the rules of the road: right of way, signalling and turning, passing, sharing the road, speed limits, impaired driving, the Graduated Driver Licensing restrictions and what to do after a collision. Signs are tested separately in the Sign test.
If I pass the sign test but fail the Basic test, do I start over?
No. You rewrite only the part you failed. You may write only once per day, and passed results stay valid for one year, so a passed sign test still counts while you retry the Basic test.
Is this the same as SGI's own practice quiz?
No. SGI has its own free quiz at sgi.sk.ca/quiz. Our questions are original, written from the Saskatchewan Driver's Handbook, and each one explains the answer and cites the handbook page. Using both gives you more variety.
