Obtaining a motorcycle licence (Classes 6A, 6B, 6C), knowledge test (page retrieved via archive.org, June 2026)
- The knowledge test takes about one hour.
- Passing it gives a Class 6R learner's licence, which allows riding on a closed track and on the road with an instructor during training at an SAAQ-recognized driving school.
- If you hold a Class 5 driver's or probationary licence, the test covers motorcycle driving only; otherwise it also covers the Highway Safety Code, signs, pavement markings and traffic signals.
- Pass marks: 85% on the motorcycle section; 75% on the Highway Safety Code and signs section.
- If you fail, you must wait at least 28 days to retake the test.
- Cheating (any prohibited material or device, used or not) means an automatic fail and a wait of at least 56 days, or 90 days for a repeat.
- Only a dictionary without illustrations or handwritten notes and SAAQ-provided material are allowed.
- Candidates under 18 need the consent form signed by a person with parental authority; everyone fills out a declaration of illness or functional impairment and passes a vision test.
- The motorcycle course must take at least 30 days.
- The closed-track test (about 15 minutes) can be taken after holding the 6R for at least one month and completing the course; passing gives a Class 6A learner's licence for riding on the road.

- Full protective gear is mandatory during training: approved helmet, visor or goggles, long sleeves, long pants without holes, gloves covering the hands, boots or closed shoes.
