Manitoba Class 5: animated explainers

  • Amber light: already in the intersection

You are already in the intersection when the light turns amber. What should you do?

    ✓ Continue through the intersection

  • Move over for a stopped ambulance

There are two lanes going your way and an ambulance is stopped ahead with its lights on. What must you do?

✓ Move to the lane farthest from it, if safe

  • Blocking an ambulance at a red light

You are stopped at a red light and an ambulance with siren on is blocked behind you. What should you do?

✓ Carefully go through to clear its path

  • Turning right behind a cyclist

You plan to turn right at the next driveway, and a cyclist is ahead on your right. What should you do?

✓ Stay behind and yield, then turn

  • Double left turn: keep your lane

Two lanes may turn left together and you are in the lane nearest the median. Where must you end up?

✓ In the lane closest to the median

  • Counting your following distance

Using a roadside marker, you reach it three seconds after the car ahead passes it. What does this tell you?

✓ You are following too closely

  • Four-way stop: a tie

Two vehicles stop at a four-way stop at the same moment. Who yields?

✓ The vehicle on the left yields to the one on the right

  • Green left arrow with red: no right turn

A green left arrow is lit together with a red light. You want to turn right. What should you do?

✓ Wait; a right turn is not allowed on this signal

  • Left turn: the light turns red

You are established in the intersection waiting to turn left, and the light turns red. What do you do?

✓ Complete the turn when it is safe

  • Pedestrian at the median

A pedestrian is crossing a divided highway and has reached the median. When may you go?

✓ Once they have safely reached the median

  • Railway crossing: 15 metres back

You stop at a railway crossing on a rural highway outside any restricted speed area. How far from the nearest rail should you stay?

    ✓ At least 15 metres

  • Roundabout: watch your left

When may you enter a roundabout?

✓ When no traffic is approaching from the left

  • School bus across a double solid line

Only a double solid line separates you from a school bus stopped on the other side with red lights flashing. Must you stop?

✓ Yes; painted lines are not a median

  • School bus across a raised median

You are on a divided road with a raised median, going the opposite way to a school bus with red lights flashing. Must you stop?

    ✓ No

  • Passing a stopped tow truck

You are passing a stopped tow truck with its warning lights on, on a road posted at 70 km/h. What is your maximum speed?

    ✓ 40 km/h
