  1. Regulatory, school and lane signs · Road sign

    Red octagon with white lettering

What does this sign require you to do?

Come to a complete stop, then go when it is safe

A stop sign always requires a full stop. You then go only when it is safe. Slowing or rolling through is not a stop.

  2. Regulatory, school and lane signs · Road sign

Downward-pointing white triangle with a wide red border

What must you do at this sign?

Let crossing traffic and pedestrians go first

A yield sign means other vehicles and crossing pedestrians go first. You need to stop only if traffic means you can't enter safely.

  3. Regulatory, school and lane signs · Road sign

White square with a red circle and a white horizontal bar

Where are you most likely to see this sign?

    On a freeway exit ramp

The do-not-enter sign means you may not go that way. The guide notes it is usually posted on exit ramps to stop wrong-way entry.

  4. Regulatory, school and lane signs · Road sign

Black rectangle with a white arrow pointing right

    What does this sign mean?

Traffic on it moves only in the arrow's direction

A one-way sign shows the direction traffic moves on that street. It is not a turn-only order.

  5. Regulatory, school and lane signs · Road sign

White rectangle reading MAXIMUM 50 km/h

What does a maximum speed sign tell you?

The top legal speed in good, dry conditions

The posted maximum is the legal limit when the road is bare and dry and visibility is good. In poor conditions you must ride slower.

  6. Regulatory, school and lane signs · Road sign

White square with a black island shape and an arrow passing to its right

    What does this sign mean?

Keep to the right of the island or divider

The keep-right sign tells you to stay to the right of a median, island or divider ahead.

  7. Regulatory, school and lane signs · Road sign

Five-sided sign with two black child figures

A school zone sign has a tab reading 30 km/h with no hours shown. When does the limit apply?

    8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on school days

When a school zone tab shows a speed but no hours, the 30 km/h limit applies from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on school days.

  8. Regulatory, school and lane signs · Road sign

White square with a green circle around an upward arrow

You are in a lane marked by an overhead arrow sign. What must you do?

Go in the direction the arrows show

Lane use signs are binding: in a lane marked with arrows you must go the way they show. You may not move into or out of the lane while in the intersection.

  9. Regulatory, school and lane signs · Road sign

White square, black arrow turning left, red circle and slash

    What does this sign mean?

Left turns are not allowed here

A red circle with a slash means the action shown is prohibited. Here it is the left turn.

  10. Regulatory, school and lane signs · Road sign

White rectangle with a black diamond outline beside the words HOV LANE

How is a reserved lane marked on the road surface?

    With a white diamond symbol

A white diamond on the pavement marks a reserved lane, such as an HOV or bus lane. Signs over or beside the lane say who may use it.

FAQ

BC Class 6 / 8 Motorcycle flashcards: questions

Where do these flashcards come from?

683 cards are points from our study notes, which we write from the official Learn to Ride Smart; the front names the rule and the back states it. The other 29 cards show a road sign drawing on the front and its meaning on the back, as in our road sign questions.

How should I use the flashcards?

Read the front, answer in your head, then flip. Choose "Got it" only if you knew it; otherwise choose "Review again". At the end, go through the "Review again" cards once more, or pick a single topic from the list to focus on it.

Is my progress saved?

Yes, on this device only. Cards marked "Review again" stay in the "Needs review" list, and every card you rate counts towards your topic map on the exam overview. Nothing is sent to us with your name; you can clear it from the overview page.

Are flashcards enough to pass the BC Class 6 / 8 Motorcycle test?

No. Flashcards help you remember the rules, but the test asks multiple-choice questions. Use our practice tests and mock exams as well, and study the official material from ICBC (Insurance Corporation of British Columbia).
