No official duration confirmed; exercise untimed. Results are uncalibrated and do not predict passing. Draws reuse the same 144 concepts.

  1. 1Under a vehicle distance-sales contract, the vehicle remains undelivered more than 30 days after the agreed supply date. What does BPCPA s. 49(1)(c) allow?
    • A. Claim against the Compensation Fund right away
    • B. Cancel only within the following 24 hours
    • C. Cancel any time after that, while it is still undelivered
    • D. Nothing, because online delivery dates are only rough estimates

The consumer may give notice of cancellation while the vehicle is still undelivered after the 30-day period. Related transactions, guarantees, security and supplier-extended or arranged credit are cancelled under s. 49(2); refund and return duties are addressed separately in ss. 50–51.

  2. 2For the specific BPCPA sections listed in section 6(2), what defence can a newspaper prove when it publishes another supplier’s misleading ad?
    • A. When the newspaper is printed and distributed outside of British Columbia
    • B. When the dealer paid for the ad in advance with cash
    • C. When the ad ran only once in the weekend edition
    • D. When it did not know and had no reason to suspect the ad broke the law

The advertiser must prove it did not know and had no reason to suspect that publication would contravene section 5. The protection is for the listed sections 171, 172 and 189, not immunity from every possible legal duty. Section 6(3) separately requires the supplier’s name/address record.

  3. 3A buyer signs a clause giving up all BPCPA rights in exchange for a discount. What is the effect?
    • A. The waiver is valid once initialled by both parties
    • B. The waiver is void
    • C. The waiver is valid for used vehicles only
    • D. The waiver is valid because a discount was given

Any waiver or release of rights, benefits or protections under the BPCPA is void unless the Act expressly permits it.

  4. 4In a retail sale of a NEW vehicle, can the contract exclude the implied conditions of quality and fitness?
    • A. Yes, if the vehicle is sold on consignment
    • B. Yes, if the buyer initials the clause
    • C. Yes, if the price is discounted
    • D. No, such terms are void for new goods

In a retail sale or lease of goods that are not used, any term that negates or diminishes the conditions in sections 17 to 19 is void.

  5. 5In a consignment, what role does the dealer play?
    • A. It rents the vehicle to the public
    • B. It sells the owner's vehicle as the owner's agent
    • C. It buys the vehicle outright at a wholesale price
    • D. It lends the owner money on the vehicle

A consignment is an arrangement where a vehicle is entrusted to a dealer for sale, under a conditional sale for resale, or for display for sale. The dealer acts as agent for the owner (consignor).

  6. 6On what basis can the registrar refuse or cancel a dealer's registration?
    • A. The dealer choosing to sell only used motorcycles
    • B. Financial responsibility or past conduct, judged against the public interest
    • C. The dealer's sales falling below a set yearly minimum
    • D. Online customer reviews that average under three stars for a full year

If the financial responsibility or past conduct of the applicant or registrant, or of a corporation's officers or directors, makes registration contrary to the public interest, the registrar can refuse, refuse to renew, cancel or suspend it.

  7. 7What is a deceptive act or practice under the BPCPA?
    • A. A representation or conduct that could deceive or mislead a consumer
    • B. Only a misleading statement printed in an advertisement
    • C. Only a written statement that the supplier knew at the time was false
    • D. Only a statement made after the contract is signed

A deceptive act is any oral, written, visual or other representation, or any conduct, by a supplier that has the capability, tendency or effect of deceiving or misleading a consumer. It can occur before, during or after the transaction.

  8. 8How long must a dealer keep its purchase and sales records under the regulation?

    • C. At least 10 years from the sale date

Dealers keep purchase orders, sales orders and written records of all purchase and sale transactions for at least 2 years, and for used vehicles records of material reconditioning with repair orders and costs.

  9. 9What must a claimant do before applying to the Fund?
    • A. Wait until the dealer's registration has been cancelled
    • B. Report the dealer to the police and get a file number
    • C. Sue the dealer in Supreme Court and win a judgment first
    • D. Make a written demand on the dealer within 4 years of the deal

The claimant must first make a written demand on the dealer within 4 years after the transaction, and the dealer must have refused or failed to honour it within 30 days.

  10. 10How long after the facts come to the registrar's attention may a prosecution under the Act be started?
    • A. There is no time limit
    • B. Up to 4 years

About the test

About the BC VSA Salesperson Licensing Exam

In British Columbia anyone who solicits, negotiates or arranges the sale of a vehicle to a consumer for a dealer, for a fee or reward, is a salesperson and must hold a salesperson licence from the Vehicle Sales Authority. New salespeople start on a conditional licence and must complete and pass the Salesperson Licensing Course before that conditional licence expires. A licence is issued for a term of up to one year and is renewed at least 14 days before it expires.

The course is a self-study online course run by the VSA. You complete an orientation, four eLearning assignments and ten forum posts, and only then can you book the final exam, which is supervised online. The exam is open book: you may use an electronic copy of the course workbook and your notes, but AI tools are not allowed. Coursework is worth 30 marks and the exam 70 marks, and you need 75 of the 100 marks to pass.

The course explores the Motor Dealer Act, the Business Practices and Consumer Protection Act, the Sale of Goods Act and contract law. In practice that means who must be licensed, what dealers and salespeople must disclose in writing, how vehicles may be advertised and priced, the code of conduct, leases and distance sales, deposits, consignment rules, the Motor Dealer Customer Compensation Fund, enforcement and penalties, curbers and odometer fraud.

These questions use public BC Laws legislation and VSA guidance, without reproducing official workbook chapters or questions. The source legislation is in English; our French teaching translation is not an official legal version. The real exam includes true/false items, while ours use four choices with editorial topic balance and difficulty.

Original unofficial practice, editorially checked against official sources and not reviewed by a licensed professional. No VSA affiliation or endorsement is claimed. A result here provides no licence, course marks or pass prediction. Sets, topics, mocks, simulator draws and printing reuse the same bank.

Study plan

How to prepare

  1. 1Read Regulation sections 21–34 for contracts, disclosure, prices, leases and conduct. These are our teaching topics; no official exam weighting is claimed.
  2. 2Keep the conditions with each figure: a specific damage threshold, a clear lease day without written waiver, the dealer demand before a Fund application. A disclosure threshold does not remove other duties about material facts.
  3. 3Learn the definitions of motor dealer, salesperson, consumer and motor vehicle. Questions often describe a situation, such as a referral reward or someone reselling a single car, and ask whether a licence is needed.
  4. 4Know the code of conduct by heart. It is short: honesty and integrity, no discrimination, every representation in writing, prompt replies, no misleading charges, no intimidation, safeguarded records and no helping others break the law.
  5. 5Read the deceptive and unconscionable practices sections of the BPCPA and note that the supplier carries the burden of proof. Practise spotting which representations are deceptive in sales scenarios.
  6. 6The exam is open book, but time spent searching is time lost. Make your own index of where each rule sits in the workbook and the laws, and practise until you can answer most questions without looking anything up.
  7. 7Our 53/70 reference is an editorial exercise target, not an official standalone exam pass mark. The VSA requires 75/100 overall: coursework 30 plus exam 70. We do not calculate your coursework or validate practice results against the real exam.
