Front and back of each card, as in the deck above. The cards come from our own notes on the official handbook; check anything you are unsure of with Government of Alberta.
  1. Road signs · Road sign

Red eight-sided sign with a white border and white lettering

You ride up to this sign at a quiet rural intersection with no traffic in sight. What must you do?

Come to a full stop, then go when it is safe

A stop sign always requires a complete stop, even when no one is around. You may continue only once the way is clear.

  2. Road signs · Road sign

Downward-pointing triangle with a red border and white centre

What does this sign require you to do?

Slow down and give the right-of-way

A yield sign means you must slow down, be ready to stop, and let traffic not facing the sign and pedestrians go first. If nobody is coming you may continue without stopping.

  3. Road signs · Road sign

White square sign with a black arrow bending left, crossed by a red circle and slash

    What does this sign mean?

    Left turns are not allowed

The bent arrow inside a red circle with a slash prohibits left turns at that location.

  4. Road signs · Road sign

White square showing a red car beside a black car, crossed by a red circle and slash

You see this sign on a two-lane highway. What does it tell you?

    Do not pass

This prohibitive sign shows two vehicles side by side in a red circle with a slash, which means passing is not allowed.

  5. Road signs · Road sign

Square white sign with a red circle crossed by a white horizontal bar

    What does this sign mean?

    Do not enter

This sign marks a road you must not enter, often the wrong end of a one-way street or ramp.

  6. Road signs · Road sign

Black horizontal rectangle with a large white arrow pointing right that holds black lettering

What does this black and white sign mean?

Traffic may travel only in the arrow's direction

A one-way sign means all traffic on that road moves in the direction of the arrow.

  7. Road signs · Road sign

White rectangle reading MAXIMUM 50 km/h

    What does this sign mean?

50 km/h is the most allowed in ideal conditions

Speed limit signs show the maximum speed in ideal conditions. In poor weather or traffic you must ride slower.

  8. Road signs · Road sign

Five-sided fluorescent yellow-green sign showing two black figures of children walking

What kind of sign is this?

A school zone or school area sign

The five-sided fluorescent yellow-green sign with children marks a school zone or school area.

  9. Road signs · Road sign

Yellow diamond with a black arrow bending to the right

What does this yellow sign warn you about?

A curve to the right ahead

A curved arrow on a yellow diamond warns of a curve. Slow down and set your lane position before you reach it.

  10. Road signs · Road sign

Yellow diamond with a black arrow curving to the right, above a yellow tab reading 50 km/h

A small tab under this curve sign shows 50 km/h. What does the tab mean?

The recommended top speed for the curve in ideal conditions

An advisory tab under a curve sign gives the recommended maximum speed through the curve in good conditions. On a motorcycle, slow before the curve, not in it.

FAQ

Alberta Class 6 flashcards: questions

Where do these flashcards come from?

366 cards are points from our study notes, which we write from the official Rider's Guide: Motorcycles, mopeds, and power-assisted bicycles; the front names the rule and the back states it. The other 21 cards show a road sign drawing on the front and its meaning on the back, as in our road sign questions.

How should I use the flashcards?

Read the front, answer in your head, then flip. Choose "Got it" only if you knew it; otherwise choose "Review again". At the end, go through the "Review again" cards once more, or pick a single topic from the list to focus on it.

Is my progress saved?

Yes, on this device only. Cards marked "Review again" stay in the "Needs review" list, and every card you rate counts towards your topic map on the exam overview. Nothing is sent to us with your name; you can clear it from the overview page.

Are flashcards enough to pass the Alberta Class 6 test?

No. Flashcards help you remember the rules, but the test asks multiple-choice questions. Use our practice tests and mock exams as well, and study the official material from Government of Alberta.
