- B. Its business name, address and phone, and any relevant link to a registrant
- C. Its annual sales volume and the commission it earns from each of its suppliers
- D. The names of all its other customers travelling on the same dates
A travel agent may not sell or offer travel services unless it discloses the name it does business under, its address and business telephone number, and any connection with another registrant relevant to the sale.
2An ad shows a price for a Cuba package. What must the price include?
- A. The airfare and hotel, but not the fuel surcharge
- B. All fees, levies, service charges, surcharges and taxes
- C. Only the base fare, with taxes and fees listed in fine print

- A. If it costs no more than going to the final destination
- B. Only if a doctor certifies that the traveller is too ill

Returning the traveller home is covered if that is their preference and can be done for a cost that does not exceed the cost of bringing them to the final destination.
4What must every registrant file with the registrar each fiscal year?
- A. A list of every customer it booked during the past year
- B. Financial documents of the type set by its sales in Ontario
- C. A new $10,000 security deposit

- A. Counselling fees paid to a travel agent
- B. A final payment for a tour that never ran
- C. The deposit paid for a cancelled package
- D. Money for a cruise when the cruise line failed

6An agent receives the customer's vouchers from the wholesaler. What must the agent do?
- A. Check that the information is correct before passing them on
- B. Forward them unopened in order to protect the customer's privacy

- A. Holding a valid passport and a travel insurance policy for the whole trip
- B. Living in Ontario for at least two full years

About the test
About the TICO Certification Exam Practice
TICO is the Travel Industry Council of Ontario. Its certification concerns the consumer-protection duties of people selling travel or giving travel advice for registered Ontario agencies and booking websites. It is not a general tourism-knowledge qualification. A person who only takes messages or does accounting has different duties from a person who sells or advises. The official provider explains the distinction, including out-of-province call-centre work for an Ontario registrant.
For new enrolments from January 5, 2026, the combined interactive program replaces the former separate counsellor and supervisor/manager routes. Existing certifications remain valid; current holders do not all have to retest. A certified counsellor seeking supervisor/manager status follows the current requirements. Some eligible legacy retakes continue under separate transition deadlines, so old materials must be read in their original context.
These independently written scenarios draw on the in-force Travel Industry Act, 2002 and Regulation 26/05. They cover who registers, staffing, financial records and trust money, advertising, pre-sale advice, invoices, changed services, supplier failure, Fund claims and enforcement. Some legal rules have important exceptions. A hotel is not the same category as every other end supplier, and the reason for a schedule change matters to a particular refund trigger.
The Fund is not general travel insurance. A qualifying booking and a permitted payment method do not establish every claim condition. Other reimbursements, exclusions, deadlines and per-person/event limits matter. The practice explanations identify the relevant statutory rule and preserve its conditions; they do not decide an individual traveller’s legal claim. For an actual problem, consult TICO and the parties responsible for the transaction.
The 144 English/French item concepts form one bank. Repeating a short set, drawing another timed exercise or printing a selection reuses it. The paid official curriculum and live exam bank are not reproduced. No TICO-certified instructor or validated pass prediction is claimed. Source review and browser testing cannot replace professional assessment or the official program.
All functions on this site remain free. The official course, exam and any rewrite are separate services run by TICO’s designated provider. Passing certification allows the relevant work for a registered agency; it does not register an independent travel business. Our program guide links the current official process without taking payments or collecting identity documents.
Study plan
How to prepare
- 1Begin with one short set. Read the case before looking for a number: who sold the service, who received the money and what changed? Each set contains a different portion of the same bank.
- 2Use the twelve teaching topics for targeted revision. Their equal presence in our exercises is an editorial choice, not an official weighting. Statutory section numbers help you find a rule, rather than stand in for understanding it.
- 3Compare neighbouring cases. A hotel failure and an airline failure do not have identical Fund rules. A price rise above seven per cent differs from a contract that does not permit any rise; full payment introduces a separate restriction.
- 4After an error, read the condition in the explanation, follow its official source and retry the missed questions. Flashcards revise the corresponding study notes. Keep your own summary of why the tempting option failed.
- 5Use the 80-question timed exercise when you want a longer session. It has 150 minutes and the published 56/80 reference, but the result concerns our original questions only. A fresh simulator draw is not another independent bank.
- 6Before the paid official exam, complete the provider’s modules and check its current software, identity, two-camera and conduct requirements. This site does not proctor you, enrol you or provide a certificate.
FAQ
TICO Certification test questions people ask
Is this a free TICO practice exam?
Yes. All 144 original questions, answers, explanations, study notes, flashcards, timed practice, simulator draws and printing are free without an account. The paid official program is separate. We do not issue a TICO certificate or publish recalled exam items.
How many questions and how much time are on the current TICO exam?
TICO publishes 80 questions in 150 minutes for the combined program. That current format differs from older separate-program summaries. Our timed exercise uses 80 original questions from this bank; the topic allocation and difficulty are editorial.
What is the TICO exam passing mark?
The official provider states 70%, or 56/80, with no deduction for a wrong answer. That is the official threshold, not evidence that 56/80 on our independent questions predicts a pass. Read each explanation rather than treating a raw percentage as professional certification.
Does the 2026 program require everyone to retest?
No. Existing certifications remain valid. New enrolments use the combined program; an existing counsellor seeking supervisor/manager certification follows its current requirements. Eligible legacy rewrites have separate transition deadlines, which the format guide explains.
How much does official certification cost?
The published new-program fee is $150 with one exam attempt; each rewrite is $50. Our practice remains free. Check the provider for current enrolment terms and requirements; paying here is neither required nor possible to unlock these exercises.
Can I take the official exam online, and is a webcam enough?
The provider offers online proctoring with Safe Exam Browser, a computer webcam and a smartphone camera activated by QR code. It is closed book. A webcam alone is insufficient. Our site uses none of that proctoring and does not collect identification or camera recordings.
What happens if I fail the official exam?
The provider allows rewrites within the six-month enrolment period, for $50 each. Wait 24 hours before the first rewrite, five days before the second, and thirty days before subsequent rewrites after results. If the enrolment period expires, re-enrolment is required.
Does passing let me open a travel agency?
No. Certification and business registration are different. A certified person works under the relevant registered Ontario agency. Operating a travel-retail or wholesale business requires the applicable TICO registration. The guide links the official distinction rather than assuming an exam certificate is a business licence.
Where can I get TICO questions and answers as a PDF?
Use our printable selection for 80 original questions with a separate explained answer key. It uses this same 144-item bank. It is not the old official manual or a copied commercial answer pack. The current official program includes its own modules and knowledge checks through the provider.
Can I practise mistakes and switch between English and French?
Yes. Explanations and missed-only practice help revisit the specific rule. English/French controls use corresponding item IDs, so switching languages does not create another question bank. Saved progress belongs to this device; clearing browser data removes it. No score here establishes that you may sell travel.
