The initial Automotive Certification Course exam has 60 multiple-choice questions, 90 minutes and an 80% threshold, or 48/60. Our longer exercise uses that length and reference. Its questions, teaching-topic balance and difficulty are independent; a score here does not certify you or predict the official result.

Sample OMVIC Certification questions
1A flood destroys a dealer's paper records. What must the dealer do?
- A. Tell the next OMVIC inspector at the routine visit
- B. Rebuild the records within 90 days and keep quiet
- C. Notify the Ministry of Transportation in writing within 30 days
- D. Tell the registrar in writing within five days what was lost
If required records become unavailable because of force majeure such as fire, flood or theft, the dealer must advise the registrar in writing within five days and describe the event. Waiting for an inspection or telling another ministry does not meet the rule.
2Which statement about the MVDA Code of Ethics is correct?
- A. It is a voluntary industry pledge with no legal force behind it
- B. It applies only to dealers, not to their salespeople
- C. It is a regulation, so breaking it is a breach of the law
- D. It applies only to sales of new vehicles to consumers
The Code is O. Reg. 332/08 and imposes legal duties on registrants, including dealer accountability for employed salespeople. A Code breach may lead to discipline. MVDA section 32(1) excludes the Code from that offence provision, so a disciplinary breach is not automatically the same as an offence conviction.
3Does a routine MVDA inspection of a dealership’s business premises require advance notice?
- A. Seven days' written notice
- B. 24 hours' notice
- C. No notice is required
- D. 48 hours' notice
Section 15 permits an inspection at a reasonable time without advance notice, excluding any part used as a dwelling. An inspector must produce evidence of authority on request and may not use force under the inspection provision. This is different from a warrant-based investigation.
4Which activity is part of OMVIC’s regulatory role?
- A. Issuing Safety Standards Certificates for used vehicles sold by dealers
- B. Inspecting dealer premises and checking required business records
- C. Issuing dealer plates and service plates
- D. Running CAMVAP arbitration hearings for manufacturers
OMVIC’s enforcement role includes dealer inspections and checking the records required by law. Vehicle plates, CAMVAP arbitration and vehicle safety certification have different responsible bodies; they are not interchangeable with dealer regulation.
5A UVIP lists Ontario registration history. Why should a dealer still investigate a vehicle that was previously registered elsewhere?
- A. A UVIP replaces every required contract disclosure about past use
- B. Ontario history alone does not establish the complete out-of-province history
- C. A UVIP is a manufacturer’s promise of a lifetime warranty
- D. A UVIP legally guarantees that no accident has ever occurred
ServiceOntario describes the UVIP as including Ontario registration history, lien and other specified information. Do not treat that as a complete history for every jurisdiction or every accident. The dealer must still research and provide the applicable required disclosures.
6A contract says the buyer gives up all rights under the Consumer Protection Act. What is the effect?
- A. The waiver is invalid and the consumer keeps their CPA rights
- B. The waiver is valid if the price was discounted
- C. The waiver is valid if the consumer initials it beside the clause
- D. The waiver is valid only for used vehicles
Consumer rights under the CPA cannot be taken away by a contract term. A clause claiming to waive them has no effect, whatever the consumer signed or the price paid.
7A dealer appeals an advertising order but has no Tribunal stay. When must it comply?
- A. Within 15 days unless a hearing has been requested
- B. Immediately; an appeal alone does not suspend the order
- C. Within 30 days of the next scheduled inspection
- D. Only after the Licence Appeal Tribunal decides the appeal
Section 29(3) makes the advertising order effective immediately. The Tribunal may grant a stay, but filing an appeal by itself does not do so. The question expressly states that no stay has been granted.
8What is a curbsider?
- A. A wholesale buyer who attends auctions on behalf of a dealer
- B. A registered dealer that sells its vehicles from a lot beside a main road
- C. An unregistered seller in the car business who poses as a private seller
- D. A salesperson who works for two dealers with written permission
A curbsider is an unregistered trader posing as a private seller. MVDA section 4 requires registration for trading, subject to exemptions such as a genuine personal-use vehicle owner in section 5. A label alone is not proof; concealed history and loss of applicable dealer protections are risks, not a claim that every private sale is illegal.
9Before completion, a general dealer receives a $10,200 purchase deposit. How much must it hold in trust?
- A. $200
- B. $10,000
- C. $0
- D. $10,200
Section 58(4) requires the entire purchase deposit in trust until completion when it is greater than $10,000. For $10,200, that is all $10,200, rather than only the $200 above the threshold.
10For the auction exemption in General regulation section 2(3), which purchasers may buy the vehicles?
- A. Registered dealers, or equivalent registrants located in another jurisdiction at sale
- B. Any member of the public who pays a higher auction entry fee
- C. Any business that merely promises to register as a dealer next year
- D. Any customer escorted by a dealer, even if the customer is unregistered
Section 2(3), paragraph 7 permits registered dealers and persons located in another jurisdiction at sale who hold equivalent registration there. The exemption has other ownership, access, identification, disclosure and record conditions. Retail auctions under section 46 are a separate setting.
About the test
About the OMVIC Practice Test — Original Questions and Explanations
OMVIC regulates Ontario motor-vehicle dealers and salespeople. Its Automotive Certification Course, delivered through Georgian College’s Automotive Business School of Canada, is one step in the registration process. Passing a course is different from registering as a salesperson or opening a dealership. Eligibility and course obligations depend on the applicant’s role and registration circumstances.
The provider currently links an English 2026 manual and a French 2025 manual. Use its current course instructions for logistics, including the published 80% threshold, rather than carrying forward an older manual’s figures. We link these official resources; we do not mirror their chapters, official review questions or exam bank.
Our eleven teaching topics group related rules rather than claim an official exam blueprint. They cover registration, records and trust money, contracts, disclosures, advertising, warranties, the Compensation Fund, enforcement, consumer protection, vehicle research and other sales operations. Each question points to its supporting source so you can check the rule and exceptions.
Current legal details matter. Extended-warranty remittances have a 30-day rule; service plans retain seven days. The ordinary Fund compensation cap excludes separately eligible court-awarded costs and interest. An as-is statement does not waive every consumer right, and a limited statutory cancellation ground is different from a general cooling-off period.
This is independent, unofficial original practice, checked editorially against official sources and not reviewed by a licensed professional. No affiliation or endorsement by OMVIC, Georgian College or CAMVAP is claimed. The same bank is reused across sets, topics, mocks, simulator draws and printing; those formats are not extra independent questions.
Everything on this site remains free. Official course enrolment, examination, registration and continuing education are separate. Initial certification is not the same product as MVDA Key Elements or REVS continuing education. Before paying a provider or arranging an exam, follow the official links and confirm your required route.
Study plan
How to prepare
- 1Start with one 27-question set, then read the explanation for each uncertain answer. Identify the person, transaction and timing before memorizing a number.
- 2Use the topic drills and study guide for gaps. Compare the ordinary rule with its exception: a personal-use owner and a dealer, a warranty and a service plan, a disclosure duty and a cancellation ground.
- 3Follow the source link after a mistake. These are editorial summaries of current rules, not legal advice about a transaction. Keep the statutory conditions with each deadline and amount.
- 4Try the 60-question exercise for a 90-minute study session. The 48/60 reference matches the published initial exam threshold but has no validated relationship to readiness. Repeating the bank can improve recall without demonstrating professional competence.
- 5Before the official online attempt, read Georgian’s current identity, software, two-camera and permitted-material instructions. The provider permits its official hardcopy manual, not arbitrary PDFs, this printable sheet or AI assistance during the live exam.
- 6Complete the official registration process separately after passing. A course credential does not authorize you to trade in vehicles for a dealer without the applicable OMVIC registration.
FAQ
OMVIC Certification test questions people ask
Is this OMVIC practice test completely free?
Yes. All 162 original concepts, answers, explanations, notes, flashcards, timed exercises, simulator draws and printing are free without an account. The official paid course and registration are separate.
Are these real OMVIC exam questions or a leaked answer key?
No. These are independently written scenarios based on official public sources. They do not reproduce the live exam or the manual’s review-question bank. Editorial source checking is not licensed-professional review.
How many questions are on the initial OMVIC certification exam?
OMVIC publishes 60 multiple-choice questions in 90 minutes. The published passing threshold is at least 80%, equivalent to 48 correct answers out of 60.
Can I take the OMVIC exam online?
Yes. OMVIC lists online and in-person options through Georgian College. Follow the provider’s current booking, identification, software and equipment instructions; this site does not administer or proctor the official exam.
Is the official exam open book? Can I use a PDF or AI?
Georgian permits the official hardcopy manual under its current rules. Electronic manuals, other notes and outside assistance are not interchangeable with that permission. Check the provider’s current exam rules; our browser practice is not an authorized live-exam aid.
How much does the official OMVIC course cost?
Georgian lists CA$288.94 for domestic/permanent-resident students and CA$563.97 for international students, effective September 1, 2026, including the manual and test. OMVIC registration and other courses are separate. Our practice remains free.
What are the time limit and retake rules for course enrolment?
The current course materials give 12 weeks and one attempt per registration. Georgian says failure or expiry requires re-registration and the full fee, and limits attempts to four per academic term. Confirm your enrolment dates and current terms with the provider.
Is an official manual available in French?
Yes. Georgian currently links an English 2026 edition and a French 2025 edition. We identify the editions separately and use the current provider page for exam logistics. Both official PDFs are linked in Books and official resources.
Georgian College — official course provider ↗
Does passing the course give me an OMVIC salesperson licence?
No. Course completion and OMVIC registration are separate. OMVIC says you normally have up to two years after passing to apply, but that period can be shortened if course content changes. Confirm the role-specific registration requirements before trading.
Is the OMVIC certificate digital now?
Georgian says it moved to digital credentials in September 2026, normally issued within ten business days after a passing letter. This course credential is separate from registration and does not itself authorize vehicle trading.
Is this the same as MVDA Key Elements or REVS continuing education?
No. This bank supports independent revision for the initial Automotive Certification Course. Current registrants may instead need a continuing-education route. Key Elements and REVS have separate content and requirements; do not treat the initial 60-question format as their format.
Can I print OMVIC practice questions and answers as a PDF?
Yes. Print our 60-question original selection with the explained key on separate pages, or choose your browser’s Save as PDF option. It reuses this bank and is not the official manual or a named commercial document.
Do these scores mean I will pass the official exam?
No. We have not validated these scores against official results. Topic balance and difficulty are editorial choices, and repeating the same concepts increases familiarity. Use the official curriculum and requirements as well as independent revision.
Does the mobile site work as a native offline app?
This is browser-based practice. We do not claim a native app or reliable offline availability. You need a connection to load the website and its resources; printing offers a separate paper study option.
