Can a registered salesperson work for two dealers at the same time?
- Yes, but only if they are part-time at both locations
- No, a salesperson can only ever be registered to one dealer
- Yes, with all dealers’ written consent in the registrar-approved form
- Yes, but only if both dealers are in the same municipality
Show answer and explanation
Correct answer: Yes, with all dealers’ written consent in the registrar-approved form
Section 14 permits work for more than one registered dealer only with every dealer’s written consent in the approved form. Registration must cover the dealers represented, and section 31 requires notice of the consent. Municipality and part-time status do not replace these conditions.

- 90 days
- 15 days
- 30 days
- 5 days
Show answer and explanation
Correct answer: 15 days
Under section 9(2), the applicant or registrant has 15 days after service to send or deliver the written hearing request to both the registrar and the Tribunal. Without a request, the registrar may carry out the proposal.

Official reference ↗No officer or director will manage a new corporate dealership. Without an exemption, whose course completion does General regulation section 11(3) require?
- Every shareholder, but neither the officers nor the daily manager
- At least one officer or director and the daily operations manager
- Only the manager, with no officer or director completing a course
- Only the accountant, if officers receive monthly financial reports
Show answer and explanation
Correct answer: At least one officer or director and the daily operations manager
For this specific corporate-management arrangement, section 11(3), paragraph 3 identifies at least one officer or director and the individual managing daily operations. Do not generalize it to every corporate structure or ignore the registrar’s current course requirements.

Official reference ↗Which relationship can make someone an interested person in a dealer’s application?
- Has filed a consumer complaint against the dealer
- Has financed the business or may benefit from it
- Has bought a vehicle from the dealer in the past year
- Lives within a kilometre of the dealer's premises
Show answer and explanation
Correct answer: Has financed the business or may benefit from it
An interested person is someone who benefits or may benefit from the business, controls it directly or indirectly, or has financed it. Their finances or past conduct can be grounds to refuse, suspend or revoke. Customers, neighbours and complainants are not interested persons.

Official reference ↗What is the usual renewal cycle for an OMVIC dealer registration?
- Three years
- Two years
- One year
- Six months
Show answer and explanation
Correct answer: One year
The official manual describes the normal dealer renewal cycle as one year, compared with two years for a salesperson. The certificate’s actual expiry date and any earlier cancellation still govern a particular registration.
Based on: ACC Student Manual, English 2026 edition, Ch. 2.02; O. Reg. 333/08 s. 17; checked 2026-10-24
Official reference ↗Which is a ground on which the registrar may refuse an application?
- The applicant plans to sell only used vehicles
- The applicant was born outside Canada
- Past conduct suggests the applicant will not act honestly
- The applicant has never sold vehicles before
Show answer and explanation
Correct answer: Past conduct suggests the applicant will not act honestly
The registrar may refuse an applicant who is not expected to be financially responsible, whose past conduct suggests they will not act with honesty and integrity, who gave false information or who has not met registration conditions. Inexperience, a used-only business and birthplace are not grounds.

Official reference ↗An individual applying to register as an Ontario motor vehicle dealer must be at least what age?
- 18
- 16
- 21
- 19
Show answer and explanation
Correct answer: 18
A dealer applicant must be 18 or older. Ontario does not use 16, 19 or 21 as the dealer age requirement.
Based on: O. Reg. 333/08, s. 11(1), para. 2; checked 2026-10-24
Official reference ↗A salesperson stays employed and has no early cancellation. What is the usual OMVIC registration renewal interval?
- One year
- Two years
- Three years
- Five years
Show answer and explanation
Correct answer: Two years
The current official manual describes a normal two-year salesperson cycle. The expiry on the registration certificate still matters, and section 17 also provides for early expiry when no registered dealer continues to employ the salesperson.
Based on: ACC Student Manual, English 2026 edition, Ch. 2.02; O. Reg. 333/08 s. 17; checked 2026-10-24
Official reference ↗A dealer hires a salesperson who is already registered elsewhere. How soon must OMVIC be told in writing?
- No notice is needed if the person is already registered
- Within five days, with the start date
- Within 15 days, by the salesperson only
- Within 30 days, at the dealer's next renewal
Show answer and explanation
Correct answer: Within five days, with the start date
MVDA section 24 requires the dealer’s written notice of the employment start date within five days; the salesperson has a corresponding notice duty. Notification does not authorize trading for a dealer before the required registration and any multi-dealer consent are in place.
Based on: Motor Vehicle Dealers Act, 2002, s. 24(1)(c), 24(2)(b); checked 2026-10-24
Official reference ↗A former dealer owes the Compensation Fund. What can satisfy the Fund-related registration condition?
- Asking a former customer to waive the Fund’s repayment rights
- Promising orally to repay after the first profitable sales month
- Having a bank approve a loan without arranging repayment to the Fund
- Following a repayment arrangement accepted by the registrar
Show answer and explanation
Correct answer: Following a repayment arrangement accepted by the registrar
Section 11(1), paragraph 6 allows a former registrant in default to meet this condition through an arrangement under MVDA section 42(8) that it has complied, or is complying, with. Owing money is not an absolute bar regardless of an accepted arrangement.
Based on: O. Reg. 333/08, s. 11(1), para. 6; MVDA s. 42(8); checked 2026-10-24
Official reference ↗Which staff member is trading in vehicles and must be registered?
- A mechanic who only diagnoses and repairs customers’ vehicles
- A receptionist who only routes calls to registered sales staff
- A finance manager who negotiates lease terms for the dealer
- A lot attendant whose only work is washing and parking inventory
Show answer and explanation
Correct answer: A finance manager who negotiates lease terms for the dealer
Negotiating a vehicle lease on a dealer’s behalf is trading, so the registration rules apply. A job title alone is not the test. The other examples expressly limit the duties to work that does not involve vehicle trading.
Based on: Motor Vehicle Dealers Act, 2002, ss. 1, 4; checked 2026-10-24
Official reference ↗Where must a general dealer keep the registration copy for a salesperson trading from its showroom?
- In the salesperson's home, available on request
- At the business location where that salesperson works
- At OMVIC's head office, on file with the registrar
- Only in a closed file held by the salesperson’s former employer
Show answer and explanation
Correct answer: At the business location where that salesperson works
Section 29(4) requires the general dealer to keep the copy at the authorized place where that salesperson trades and produce it on request. Other dealer classes have specified storage rules. The rule does not turn solely on whether a copy is paper or electronic.
Based on: O. Reg. 333/08, s. 29(4)–(6); checked 2026-10-24
Official reference ↗When must a new salesperson be registered with OMVIC?
- Before their first annual performance review
- Before trading or negotiating on behalf of that dealer
- Only before signing their first sales contract
- Within 30 days of starting work at the dealership
Show answer and explanation
Correct answer: Before trading or negotiating on behalf of that dealer
MVDA section 4 requires registration before acting as a salesperson, and registration must relate to the dealer represented. Employment alone, or having another person sign the contract later, does not authorize unregistered trading.
Based on: Motor Vehicle Dealers Act, 2002, ss. 1, 4(1), 4(3), 4(5); checked 2026-10-24
Official reference ↗A salesperson's registration was revoked. When can they reapply?
- After six months, once the revocation fee is paid
- After 90 days, if a dealer agrees to sponsor them
- Never, because revocation is permanent under the MVDA
- When the two-year wait and evidence-or-change conditions are met
Show answer and explanation
Correct answer: When the two-year wait and evidence-or-change conditions are met
MVDA section 12 requires the prescribed waiting time plus new or other evidence, or a clear material change in circumstances. General regulation section 15 sets two years. Meeting these threshold conditions does not itself guarantee registration.
Based on: Motor Vehicle Dealers Act, 2002, s. 12; O. Reg. 333/08 s. 15; checked 2026-10-24
Official reference ↗What is a broker NOT allowed to do?
- Charge the customer a fee for arranging the deal
- Advertise the brokering services it provides
- Arrange a purchase on behalf of a consumer customer
- Take the vehicle or handle the funds used to pay for the trade
Show answer and explanation
Correct answer: Take the vehicle or handle the funds used to pay for the trade
Section 20 prevents a broker from taking possession of the traded vehicle or handling the funds paying for the trade. A separately disclosed broker service fee is different from holding the customer’s vehicle-purchase money.
Based on: O. Reg. 333/08, s. 20(1)(a), 20(5); checked 2026-10-24
Official reference ↗Which of these does not need to register with OMVIC?
- A company exporting used vehicles out of Ontario
- A person who buys cars to resell from their driveway
- A qualifying dealer-only auction with no property interest in vehicles
- A business that brokers retail car deals for consumers
Show answer and explanation
Correct answer: A qualifying dealer-only auction with no property interest in vehicles
The auction exemption requires the conditions in section 2(3), including no auctioneer property interest and eligible dealer buyers, with access and record requirements. It is not a blanket exemption for every business called an auction, broker or exporter.
Based on: O. Reg. 333/08, s. 2(1), para. 1; s. 2(3); checked 2026-10-24

MVDA ss. 4–12, 24; General ss. 8, 11, 14–15, 20, 29, 31
- Trading first: Employment alone does not authorize negotiations: the salesperson must be registered for the dealer represented before trading.
- Actual duties: A finance manager negotiating a vehicle lease is trading; a job title alone does not decide whether registration is required.
- Individual applicant: An individual dealer applicant must be at least 18; corporate course requirements depend on the management arrangement and exemptions.
- Several dealers: Working for several dealers requires their written consent in the approved form, applicable registration and required notice.
- Hearing request: The ordinary proposal process gives 15 days after service to send or deliver the written request to both registrar and Tribunal.
- Reapplication: After refusal, non-renewal or revocation, the prescribed two-year wait and the evidence-or-material-change conditions matter; eligibility is not approval.
- Broker: A broker cannot take the traded vehicle or handle its purchase funds; a separately disclosed service fee is distinct.
- Employment notice: The applicable start/end employment notice has a five-day period; notification does not replace registration.
