The first 10 of 91 cards

Front and back of each card, as in the deck above. The cards come from our own notes on the official handbook; check anything you are unsure of with Ontario Motor Vehicle Industry Council (OMVIC).
  1. OMVIC, the MVDA and its regulations · MVDA ss. 15, 21–22, 26–29; General s. 37

    Regulator

OMVIC administers and enforces the motor-vehicle dealer legislation; an industry association is not the registration authority.

  2. OMVIC, the MVDA and its regulations · MVDA ss. 15, 21–22, 26–29; General s. 37

    Board

The current OMVIC board has nine directors: three industry, three public and three ministerial appointees.

  3. OMVIC, the MVDA and its regulations · MVDA ss. 15, 21–22, 26–29; General s. 37

    Fee remittance

The registered dealer remits applicable transaction fees; current exemptions must be checked rather than assumed for every company purchase.

  4. OMVIC, the MVDA and its regulations · MVDA ss. 15, 21–22, 26–29; General s. 37

    Advertising order

An advertising order takes effect immediately unless the Tribunal grants a stay; an appeal alone is not a stay.

  5. OMVIC, the MVDA and its regulations · MVDA ss. 15, 21–22, 26–29; General s. 37

    Preapproval

The prescribed maximum advertising preapproval period is two years following the applicable order process, not a universal restriction.

  6. OMVIC, the MVDA and its regulations · MVDA ss. 15, 21–22, 26–29; General s. 37

    Receiver

The Superior Court can appoint a receiver/manager on the director’s application where the statutory conditions and public-interest test are met.

  7. OMVIC, the MVDA and its regulations · MVDA ss. 15, 21–22, 26–29; General s. 37

    Freeze order

Customer protection and a listed warrant or proceeding condition are required; a commercial disagreement alone is not the test.

  8. OMVIC, the MVDA and its regulations · MVDA ss. 15, 21–22, 26–29; General s. 37

    Confidentiality

Confidential information has statutory permitted-disclosure exceptions; do not treat it as either always public or never shareable.

  9. Registering dealers and salespeople · MVDA ss. 4–12, 24; General ss. 8, 11, 14–15, 20, 29, 31

    Trading first

Employment alone does not authorize negotiations: the salesperson must be registered for the dealer represented before trading.

  10. Registering dealers and salespeople · MVDA ss. 4–12, 24; General ss. 8, 11, 14–15, 20, 29, 31

    Actual duties

A finance manager negotiating a vehicle lease is trading; a job title alone does not decide whether registration is required.

FAQ

OMVIC Certification flashcards: questions

Where do these flashcards come from?

Each of the 91 cards is one point from our study notes, which we write from the official Automotive Certification Course Student Manual — English 2026 edition. The front names the rule; the back states it. Nothing on the cards is added beyond those notes.

How should I use the flashcards?

Read the front, answer in your head, then flip. Choose "Got it" only if you knew it; otherwise choose "Review again". At the end, go through the "Review again" cards once more, or pick a single topic from the list to focus on it.

Is my progress saved?

Yes, on this device only. Cards marked "Review again" stay in the "Needs review" list, and every card you rate counts towards your topic map on the exam overview. Nothing is sent to us with your name; you can clear it from the overview page.

Are flashcards enough to pass the OMVIC Certification test?

No. Flashcards help you remember the rules, but the test asks multiple-choice questions. Use our practice tests and mock exams as well, and study the official material from Ontario Motor Vehicle Industry Council (OMVIC).
