The registrations panel on printed p.27 (PDF p.14) reports 30,939 salespersons. It does not print an exact stock date. The 5,361 new salesperson applications are a separate flow, not additional employed salespeople. Registration can cover trading roles such as dealership sales, business and finance managers; this is not a count of frontline sales vacancies.

The work and the registration

OMVIC registration concerns people involved in trading motor vehicles on behalf of a registered dealer. The regulator’s description includes more than floor sales: some sales, business and finance management roles also require registration. This guide concerns an individual salesperson, not opening or registering a dealership.

What the employment evidence means

Job Bank labels Ontario’s NOC 64100 outlook Limited for 2025–2027. It expects broad retail employment to stay relatively stable, with openings from retirement and turnover. Toronto and Ottawa are Limited; Kingston–Pembroke and Muskoka–Kawarthas are Moderate. Those regional labels include many retail jobs and should not be presented as dealership hiring forecasts.

Your application checklist

Steps checked: 0/4

  1. Check which duties require OMVIC registration and arrange the dealer authorization required by the individual application. Use the individual salesperson route rather than the business/dealer application.

  2. Review the current application’s identification, right-to-work and background-check instructions. Use the accepted check route and disclose the requested history accurately; the regulator determines eligibility.

  3. Register with Georgian College/ABSC and complete the required Automotive Certification Course. Include the ABSC student ID in the application so results can reach OMVIC. Course completion alone is not registration.

  4. Use OMVIC’s online portal with the required dealer certificate, documents and fee. Check approval and dealer association before trading. Follow renewal and continuing-education requirements to maintain registration.

Already licensed outside Ontario?

Another provincial credential does not automatically register you with OMVIC. Read the labour-mobility policy and the separate 2026 deemed-certification process. The latter requires specific evidence, an Ontario dealer sponsor, the course requirement, the fee and OMVIC’s notice of receipt before the six-month deemed status begins. Ask OMVIC which route applies.

Questions before you apply

Are 30,939 registrations the number of car-sales jobs?

No. It is a regulatory population reported in OMVIC’s 2025 annual report. It includes registered trading roles, not just a particular dealership job title, and does not establish who is employed or how many jobs are open.

Why does Job Bank show CA$17.95 per hour?

Its automobile salesperson profile uses the broader retail group NOC 64100. The published provincial median has a 2023–2024 reference period and can be adjusted for minimum-wage changes. It is not a car-sales-only salary or a promised starting rate; LFS wages include commissions, tips and bonuses.

Is passing the OMVIC course enough to start selling?

No. You also need the required registration and dealership authorization. Our original free questions are revision, not Georgian’s course, its official examination or OMVIC approval.

Definitions, dates and limits

  • Registration is permission to carry on regulated work, not evidence of a current job. OMVIC’s 2025 panel reports registered salespersons; the VSA reports salesperson licences at 2025/26 fiscal year-end. Dates and regulatory coverage differ. New applications, renewals and licensed dealerships are separate measures.
  • Job Bank groups automobile salespersons within NOC 64100, Retail salespersons and visual merchandisers. Both the hourly medians and employment outlooks cover that broad group, not just car sales or OMVIC/VSA registrants. No car-sales-only official wage or outlook is inferred from these figures.
  • Wages are gross CAD per hour, based on the 2023–2024 LFS reference period; the annual Job Bank wage release is dated 19 November 2025. Job Bank also adjusts published wages for minimum-wage increases. The displayed estimate is not an unadjusted historical wage, an entry offer or take-home pay.
  • Statistics Canada says LFS wages include tips, commissions and bonuses and exclude self-employment. It would be wrong to label these figures “base pay excluding commission”. A particular dealership’s base salary, draw, commission formula, clawbacks and hours still need a written explanation from the employer.
  • The 2025–2027 outlooks were released on 10 December 2025. “Limited” is an occupational-group assessment, not a personal hiring probability. No real-time vacancy count or employment-to-registration ratio is published here. Job Bank links can include broad retail roles: read each employer’s duties and industry.
