The DZ written test is the Class D knowledge test you take at a DriveTest centre before the Class D road test. This page gives you 100 questions in one sitting, spread across every topic in our Class D bank: what the licence covers, daily inspections and defects, hydraulic and air brake checks, cargo securement, hours of service, gears and the differential lock, turning and backing a straight truck, signs, Class D renewals and fuel-efficient driving.
Use it as a check before you book. Sort the questions you miss by topic and take that topic's practice test next. The real test is not timed, so practise reading every choice; on truck tests most wrong answers come from missing one detail such as a weight, a distance or a time limit.

FAQ
DZ written test – 100 questions: common questions
Is the DZ written test hard?
Most people find the numbers the hardest part: weights, hours-of-service limits, air pressures and re-check distances. If you can score 90 percent here, you are well prepared.
Do I write the air brake test separately?
Yes. The Z endorsement has its own knowledge and practical test. Many DZ candidates write both written tests on the same visit; practise with our separate air brake (Z) test.
Can I take the DZ written test in another language?
DriveTest offers knowledge tests in English or French at a minimum, and computerized commercial knowledge tests in 20 languages. This practice site is available in English and French.
