This drill covers the Class 1 chapter of Alberta's Commercial Driver's Guide: how weight and speed change braking force, air brake lag time, coupling and uncoupling a semi-trailer or pintle hitch, A, B and C trains, long combination vehicles, off-tracking, turns, curves, hill parking and reversing. Each answer explains the rule and cites the guide page.
Remember that a Class 1 applicant can be asked about any chapter, because Class 1 lets you drive almost every vehicle. After this page, work through the shared topics (licensing, hours of service, trip inspections, dangerous goods) and the bus, truck and taxi drills, then take the 30-question mock exam. You also need the air brake (Q) endorsement before a Class 1 licence; that course and its manual are separate.

How should you hold a parked tractor-trailer?
- Trailer hand valve and low gear
- Tractor parking brake and wheel chocks

FAQ
Alberta Class 1 knowledge test practice: common questions
How many questions are on the Alberta Class 1 knowledge test?
Like every Alberta knowledge test, it has 30 multiple-choice questions and you need 25 correct. The test ends as soon as you get six wrong.
Do Class 1 questions only cover tractor-trailers?
No. The guide says Class 1 applicants may get questions from any chapter, including buses, trucks, taxis, dangerous goods and hours of service, so practise the whole bank as well as this page.
Is the air brake test part of the Class 1 knowledge test?
In Alberta the air brake (Q) endorsement is a separate course with its own knowledge test, and you need it before you can get a Class 1 licence. This page covers only the air brake basics in the Commercial Driver's Guide.
