If you are searching for a Canadian GED practice test, first check which credential is now offered where you live. The Canadian GED testing programme ended in 2024, and CAEC is its replacement in participating jurisdictions. Old study materials are not automatically an accurate guide to the new assessment.

Independent explanation, not an admission or credential decision. Your province or territory controls local eligibility and registration. Confirm acceptance with the employer, school or training programme that will receive your credential.

The main change

Alberta’s GED transition page states that GED testing ended in Canada on May 3, 2024. CAEC is the replacement. A completed GED is not something you must automatically retake; ask the receiving organization about its requirements.

A practical comparison

Separate the question of which test is available from the question of what an employer or institution accepts. A credential can be valid without meeting every programme’s specific admission requirements.

Prepare for the current subject areas

CAEC covers Reading, Writing, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies. Its mathematics assessment includes calculator and no-calculator work. Writing requires a persuasive response, so multiple-choice practice alone does not cover that task.

If you have partial GED results

Recognition of earlier results has rules and deadlines. Ontario’s CAEC information describes recognition of eligible GED subjects until May 2027. Do not assume a rule from Ontario applies to another province or that every older result qualifies. Contact the local testing service with your record.

Choose a study path that fits the gap

If you have not studied for some time, start with a short practice session in each subject and note the type of error. In mathematics, distinguish an arithmetic mistake from misunderstanding a word problem. In reading, check whether you missed a stated detail or drew an unsupported conclusion.

For writing, practise a complete argument outside the quiz. Use a clear position, developed reasons and a revision pass. A good result on writing-conventions questions does not demonstrate that you can sustain a persuasive response under assessment conditions.

Use official candidate practice to learn the current assessment environment. Use our original questions and worked essay to review concepts and learn from mistakes. Neither an old GED score nor a percentage on this site guarantees a CAEC outcome.

FAQ

CAEC vs GED in Canada: common questions

Do I need to replace a completed GED with CAEC?

Do not assume so. Alberta’s transition guidance says previously earned GED credentials can continue to be used. Confirm what your employer, institution or programme accepts.

Are GED practice questions the same as CAEC questions?

No. Some underlying skills overlap, but the assessment and its outcomes are distinct. Use current CAEC outcomes and official candidate practice, then choose original study exercises for the skills you need.
