Start with the requirement of the organization receiving your results. General and General LS assess different combinations of English skills, so choosing the shorter test simply to avoid writing can lead to the wrong booking.

Independent study guidance. Confirm the required test and current rules with the receiving organization. This comparison does not determine immigration eligibility or replace official application instructions.

Applying through Express Entry?

IRCC lists CELPIP-General for Express Entry and explicitly excludes General LS. Check the language requirements for your immigration programme and every required ability; a result report is not a guarantee of an invitation or permanent residence.

Applying for citizenship or another purpose?

CELPIP identifies General LS as a citizenship test option. Citizenship has its own language-proof rules, which are different from Express Entry requirements. If you already hold a report, use IRCC’s language-proof instructions to check it before booking another test.

For a professional registration, employer or education programme, ask the receiving organization for the exact accepted test name. Do not infer acceptance from another organization’s rules.

A booking checklist you can use

Save the requirement page or correspondence that names your test. Compare it with the full name in the booking screen, not just the word CELPIP. If the two do not agree, resolve that question before paying.

  • Identify who will receive your results and which programme you are applying to.
  • Read the accepted test name and the required skills.
  • Check identification, available locations and result timing on the provider’s site.
  • Check current pricing at booking; fees can differ by country and change over time.
  • Keep a record of the requirement you used.

Choose practice that matches the skills

For General, combine reading and listening practice with writing drafts and spoken responses. For General LS, focus on listening and speaking while still reading on-screen instructions and answer choices. Do not assume a high reading-quiz percentage measures your spoken English.

Our free tools are separate activities, rather than a full official CELPIP simulation. A reading exercise shows which original questions you answered correctly; the writing workspace offers revision feedback; the recorder lets you listen to your own response. None converts practice performance into an official result.
