The wage comparison is a broad retail benchmark. It is not a dealership salary comparison or an estimate of your commission income. LFS wages include commissions, tips and bonuses. Registration and licence totals use different reporting periods. They are not numbers of jobs, vacancies or applicants competing for one opening.

registered salespersons · 2025 annual report

The registrations panel on printed p.27 (PDF p.14) reports 30,939 salespersons. It does not print an exact stock date. The 5,361 new salesperson applications are a separate flow, not additional employed salespeople. Registration can cover trading roles such as dealership sales, business and finance managers; this is not a count of frontline sales vacancies.

  • Initial course: CA$288.94 or CA$563.97

Georgian lists CA$288.94 for domestic/permanent-resident registration and CA$563.97 for international registration, effective 1 September 2026. The initial correspondence course includes its manual and test. The college determines the fee category.

  • New salesperson application: CA$349

OMVIC’s schedule is effective 1 May 2026. The initial course and background check are separate. This is the individual fee, not the dealer/business registration fee.

  • Renewal and continuing education

The schedule lists CA$209 for the two-year salesperson renewal and CA$99 for REVS. Check the applicable continuing-education components and additional provider charges before renewal; do not treat the initial course as the whole ongoing budget.

salesperson licences at year-end · 2025/26 fiscal year-end

The VSA annual report’s p.6 key-metrics panel reports 9,073 salesperson licences at 2025/26 year-end. Its 1,721 dealer licences are a separate category. Licence records are not the number of current vacancies, full-time workers or newly hired salespeople. The period differs from OMVIC’s 2025 reporting year.

  • Application and initial first year: CA$225

VSA’s published salesperson schedule lists the application and initial first-year licence together. The course is separate. Police-check costs and other applicable charges are not included in this figure.

All amounts are CAD, as published and checked on 25 October 2026. Course, application, background-check and renewal costs have different scopes. Check the current provider terms, taxes and applicable fees before paying.

The two regulator totals are not a competition ranking

OMVIC reports registered people in its salesperson category for 2025; VSA reports salesperson licences at 2025/26 fiscal year-end. Neither is a count of open jobs or people applying for one job. Do not divide broad retail job adverts by these totals to calculate a hiring chance.

Compare equivalent pay terms, not just two medians

The displayed Job Bank medians are for the same broad NOC 64100 group, but that does not make them car-sales-only wages. Get comparable written offers and account for hours, commission conditions, living costs and benefits. LFS wages include commissions; the problem is scope, not a blanket exclusion of commission pay.

Follow the destination’s sequence

Ontario requires its official course before the application can be approved. BC links course enrolment to application processing and completion to the conditional licence expiry. A prior provincial credential is not an automatic transfer: ask the destination regulator about mobility and recognized evidence.

Questions before you apply

Does this show a car salesperson’s expected salary?

No. The wage estimates and outlooks describe NOC 64100 across retail. They are not car-sales-only figures and do not predict a particular commission plan. Compare written job offers, paid hours, guaranteed pay, commission conditions and benefits.

Can free practice give me OMVIC registration or a VSA licence?

No. Our original practice is independent, unofficial and not licensed-reviewed. Complete the regulator’s required course, assessment and application process. Passing our quiz does not confer registration, a licence or a job.

Definitions, dates and limits

  • Registration is permission to carry on regulated work, not evidence of a current job. OMVIC’s 2025 panel reports registered salespersons; the VSA reports salesperson licences at 2025/26 fiscal year-end. Dates and regulatory coverage differ. New applications, renewals and licensed dealerships are separate measures.
  • Job Bank groups automobile salespersons within NOC 64100, Retail salespersons and visual merchandisers. Both the hourly medians and employment outlooks cover that broad group, not just car sales or OMVIC/VSA registrants. No car-sales-only official wage or outlook is inferred from these figures.
  • Wages are gross CAD per hour, based on the 2023–2024 LFS reference period; the annual Job Bank wage release is dated 19 November 2025. Job Bank also adjusts published wages for minimum-wage increases. The displayed estimate is not an unadjusted historical wage, an entry offer or take-home pay.
  • Statistics Canada says LFS wages include tips, commissions and bonuses and exclude self-employment. It would be wrong to label these figures “base pay excluding commission”. A particular dealership’s base salary, draw, commission formula, clawbacks and hours still need a written explanation from the employer.
  • The 2025–2027 outlooks were released on 10 December 2025. “Limited” is an occupational-group assessment, not a personal hiring probability. No real-time vacancy count or employment-to-registration ratio is published here. Job Bank links can include broad retail roles: read each employer’s duties and industry.

Job Bank was under scheduled maintenance during our 25 October 2026 review. The figures above were verified against its available published official profiles. They are dated reference estimates; follow the source links for current releases.
