The registrations panel on printed p.27 (PDF p.14) reports 30,939 salespersons. It does not print an exact stock date. The 5,361 new salesperson applications are a separate flow, not additional employed salespeople. Registration can cover trading roles such as dealership sales, business and finance managers; this is not a count of frontline sales vacancies.

The VSA annual report’s p.6 key-metrics panel reports 9,073 salesperson licences at 2025/26 year-end. Its 1,721 dealer licences are a separate category. Licence records are not the number of current vacancies, full-time workers or newly hired salespeople. The period differs from OMVIC’s 2025 reporting year.

Start with the role and the employer

Ask whether the work is retail sales, management, finance, wholesale or operating a dealership. Different activities can require different registrations. Both pathways involve the dealership as well as the individual, so course shopping alone is not a complete employment plan.

Read the written pay plan

Ask the employer about guaranteed pay, paid hours, recoverable draws, commission triggers, cancellations and benefits. The broad retail median is context only. It does not describe an individual car-sales offer or establish which province pays car salespeople more.

Questions before you apply

Does this show a car salesperson’s expected salary?

No. The wage estimates and outlooks describe NOC 64100 across retail. They are not car-sales-only figures and do not predict a particular commission plan. Compare written job offers, paid hours, guaranteed pay, commission conditions and benefits.

Can free practice give me OMVIC registration or a VSA licence?

No. Our original practice is independent, unofficial and not licensed-reviewed. Complete the regulator’s required course, assessment and application process. Passing our quiz does not confer registration, a licence or a job.

Definitions, dates and limits

  • Registration is permission to carry on regulated work, not evidence of a current job. OMVIC’s 2025 panel reports registered salespersons; the VSA reports salesperson licences at 2025/26 fiscal year-end. Dates and regulatory coverage differ. New applications, renewals and licensed dealerships are separate measures.
  • Job Bank groups automobile salespersons within NOC 64100, Retail salespersons and visual merchandisers. Both the hourly medians and employment outlooks cover that broad group, not just car sales or OMVIC/VSA registrants. No car-sales-only official wage or outlook is inferred from these figures.
  • Wages are gross CAD per hour, based on the 2023–2024 LFS reference period; the annual Job Bank wage release is dated 19 November 2025. Job Bank also adjusts published wages for minimum-wage increases. The displayed estimate is not an unadjusted historical wage, an entry offer or take-home pay.
  • Statistics Canada says LFS wages include tips, commissions and bonuses and exclude self-employment. It would be wrong to label these figures “base pay excluding commission”. A particular dealership’s base salary, draw, commission formula, clawbacks and hours still need a written explanation from the employer.
  • The 2025–2027 outlooks were released on 10 December 2025. “Limited” is an occupational-group assessment, not a personal hiring probability. No real-time vacancy count or employment-to-registration ratio is published here. Job Bank links can include broad retail roles: read each employer’s duties and industry.

Job Bank was under scheduled maintenance during our 25 October 2026 review. The figures above were verified against its available published official profiles. They are dated reference estimates; follow the source links for current releases.
